Hi, I’m John

I’m a documentary wedding photographer who loves honest, unposed moments.

I capture weddings in a candid, relaxed way — focusing on the real emotion, the quiet glances, the daft moments, the flashes of connection that make your day yours.

I’m based in Liverpool, but I photograph weddings across Manchester, Cheshire, North Wales and the Lake District. If your wedding has real heart, I’m there.

My Approach

As a candid wedding photographer, I specialise in natural, unposed moments rather than staged poses.

My approach is simple: I blend in, observe, and let the story unfold naturally. No staging, no awkward poses — just genuine moments told in a natural, storytelling way.

Couples often say they barely noticed I was there, yet the photos feel like being right back in the moment.

If you’re looking for a relaxed, natural wedding photographer who captures your day exactly as it felt, I’d love to hear about your plans.

Why This Style?

Because the best moments aren’t planned. They happen in the quiet in-betweens — the squeeze of a hand, a nervous laugh, a tear someone tries to hide, or the chaos of the dancefloor at 11pm.

I shoot weddings in a candid, documentary way because posed photos rarely tell the full story. Real emotion does.

My aim is to blend in, observe, and let your day unfold naturally. No direction, no performance, no pressure.

When you look back at your photos, I want you to feel your day again — not remember being told where to stand.

My Story

When I was a kid, I did not dream of being a wedding photographer. I wanted to be a rock star. That did not work out for me.

I’d moved to Liverpool from Devon in 2010, but never truly saw the city and its inhabitants until I started photographing it.

Holding a camera in my hands makes me happy. It makes me notice the smallest of details in the world that I would otherwise miss, and lets me be truly present.

I spent over 2 years learning my craft on the street, building a body of Liverpool street photography that I’m very proud of.

I knew I could continue to hone and develop my street portfolio for years to come, but felt that there must be another way I could make use of my new skills.

After seeing the work of Kevin Mullins, Chelsea Cannar, and Martin Ellard - I discovered the huge potential for creativity within wedding photography.

I then set my sights on building a body of wedding work that embraces everything I’ve grown to love about shooting candidly on the streets.

  • 8-12 hours of my time on your wedding day (plus another day or so of editing!).

  • Seeking as many fleeting moments and chance encounters I can find.

  • Photographing every one of them in the only way that I know.
